Every week we will add information and web links for the department that has been featured on Firehouse Kitchen.

Our first department is the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, or, Sac Metro Fire for short. Located in Sacramento County, California, the Sac Metro Fire Dept. is responsible for the entire county area, except for three cities. Sac Metro firefighters must be prepared for a wide range of emergencies including wildland firefighting, water rescue, hazardous materials response, a helicopter program, paramedic and ambulance service and heavy rescue. Sac Metro firefighters were a part of the rescue efforts of the Oklahoma City bombings, the attack on 09/11, and most recently, the aftermath of Katrina.

Sac Metro has 42 stations throughout the county and they respond to nearly 61,000 emergency calls every year. With almost 700 paid firefighters on staff, they respond to the emergencies created by the 417 square miles of territory, two major rivers and the potential emergencies at the four different airports.
